In the minute and a half that it was cold here, I pulled out my recently rediscovered London Fog trench.  Still adjusting to being my own photographer.

Hat Trick

I think hats are one of the great accessories, but I don't know how it is where you live.  When I wear a hat in southern California, people look at me like I'm from a different planet.  People very rarely wear hats here.  I still throw them on when the mood strikes.  And no, that's not snow on the ground.  My backyard has been fooled into thinking that it's spring because of the over 80 temperatures all week.  I'm personally holding out for winter.

Date Night

Before the hub left for his first two weeks in Detroit, we ventured out on the town for date night.  I wore this outfit, and he was in his typical Brooks Brothers attire.  Ruth's Chris is our favorite place to go for steaks at the moment.  I love the sizzling plates that keep your steak warm the entire time you are eating it but somehow magically don't overcook it.  Going to Ruth's Chris is license to make even your veggies not good for you: au gratin everything.  Notice how huge hub's bone-in fillet is.  He was able to finish that and half of mine as well.  And look at how my Manhattan frosted up my glass because it was so perfectly shaken.  Tonight we are taking the kids to Philippe's for French dips before hub gets back on the plane to Detroit tomorrow.

Circles of Confusion

I really miss my husband.  He'll be home on Friday to spend almost 36 hours with me.  To the people who do this regularly, I don't know how you do it.  But everyone is different, right?  Pretty good Barbie pony I'm sporting though.

Mixing it Up

I'm still trying to work color in, but I've taken a much different approach: instead of going for pieces in brights, I'm working in bright accessories with my normal black and grey routine.  I have a love/hate relationship with this Halston Heritage belt.  I really do love the color, but the way that it clasps is really awkward.

Cheap Trend

You've probably seen this outfit everywhere, but I've been going through a phase where I'm in love with fur.  I know the trend will pass by the time I write this post, so I wanted to indulge without indulging.  The fur vest and faux leather jacket are from Forever 21, and I paired them with a pair of jeans from Target and these shoes from Sole Society.

Hidden Little Things

I'm really into dresses right now which is something of a return for me.  I used to wear a dress almost everyday to work, but somewhere along the way I switched to pants.  Lately I've been wearing dresses again, and I've found a few with really cute details.  This one makes me feel like I'm wearing Jessica Rabbit's dress.  Notice how the blush-colored block is slightly lower in the back making it look like the backline on a strapless dress.  I also love the hidden bow.  I kept my hair down that day, so I was the only one who knew what was hiding back there.  This necklace is actually a mirror, so unless someone walked up to me and flipped it over (how rude!), no one would know. And one of the bracelets I'm wearing actually has charms of Charlie Brown and Lucy.

Pop

Okay, so my attempt to wear brighter colors more often last year failed miserably.  But it was during that effort that I bought this Z Spoke dress which I'm still trying valiantly to wear.  This is the type of outfit I used to wear regularly: a sweater dress topped with a blazer.  I love the scalloped hem on this dress, and the color is the exact color of a sweater I had in high school that I absolutely adored until I washed it with a new pair of jeans which bled all over it making it inadvertently heathered.  I was going to pair this outfit with my reptile platforms seen yesterday here, but it was just too over the top, so I stuck with the classic LV.  Here's to trying again to work in more color.

After the Parade

These pics are actually from way back on Jan 2.  Can you believe that's over two weeks ago already?  After spending four days at home, I had cabin fever, so after the parade was finally over (it may only take two hours to watch on tv, but it takes over four for everyone to reach the end - those were the longest four hours of my life knowing that I couldn't get out of my neighborhood and wanting to as much as if my life depended on it), I grabbed the hub to go view the devastation that is Colorado Blvd.  The street was a ghost town because everyone was now either going to the game or in our neighborhood looking at floats. Old Town was quiet, calm and peaceful.  I loved it.

Bearable

Please bear with me; these are the first pictures I had to take of myself.  By the time I got the camera set up and took pictures in one spot, decided that they were all grotesque, set up the camera again, and got these, the fishtail braid I was so proud of was half undone and the sun was in the wrong place.  Oh well, there's always tomorrow....I went back to a bare (Ha! bear/bare - didn't mean to do that) lip today and grey on the eyes.  Felt more like me then the bright red mouth I had been sporting lately.  Also, I'm sad that my hub is away, and red felt more like a celebration then what I felt.

Clear Days

Another bright sunny one here.  I actually went out without sleeves today, and I'm always cold.  These pants are a clear example of what my sister and I were recently and emphatically complaining about - when you organize your closet by color (we both do), do you ever have items that drive you crazy because you can't tell what color they are?  I swear these are black until I wear them with a black blouse like today and then they seem grey.  Keeps me up at night.  I've recently been trying some Pantene shampoo which I was sent as part of Allure Insiders.  It's the Aqua Light products which I hate to say, but I haven't been a big fan.  The shampoo smells odd to me, and the conditioner is just not heavy enough.  Sorry Pantene.  Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Glee

I know it doesn't look it by the scowl on my face, but I'm actually quite happy.  So often we take pictures in the late afternoon (because that's when I finally get myself pulled together), and the light can really be harsh here in southern California.  I've come to realize that is probably the reason that so many of the bloggers here wear sunglasses in almost all of their outfit posts.  I do have to admit that I might also look a little slack-jawed right now because of the inability to bite down brought on by a flareup of my TMJ.  Actually had to go to the dentist to have my jaw reset yesterday.  He showed me a trick to doing it myself, but ultimately, I'm going to have to finally breakdown and get fitted for mouth guards.  In spite of that, I feel good and think I look very ladylike today.  The dress is vintage 1950's Jantzen which was my mom's originally.  I love the ribbing and the fact that it's heathered.  I think the yellow bag adds a nice pop of color.  I wear this long cashmere cardigan constantly.  It was a great find at a sample sale.  N and I are planning diet menus for while the hub is away working.  Especially needed since I've decided I resemble rather a wide load when shot straight on.  You may only see me in profile from now on.

Compare and Contrast

I love to mix things that aren't supposed to go together: red and pink; silver and gold; and now black and brown.  I saw a pair of Fendi sandals that combined the two, and I became obsessed with them.  It was a happy coincidence when I found this pair from ShoeDazzle with a much lower cost.  I love it when I can try something that might be a passing trend with a small investment.  The dress was a find the day after Christmas at H & M.  This was my outfit to Ruth's Chris for steak with the husband.  We had a last date alone because he will be spending most of the next month in Michigan working.  Unfortunately, he is my chief photographer, so as he goes so goes the volume of posts on the blog.  Please stay tuned.  On Monday, please visit Not Dead Yet Style for Visible Monday.
